Background on the Holt Association of America
The Holt Association was founded by Dr. Hamilton Holt, President of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. He was an educator, author, editor and politician. His co-founder was Henry Holt, famed publisher and author. They met at The Authors Club in New York City, and while both Holt descendants from unrelated lines, they developed a close friendship and conceived the idea for the Holt Association.
To date, Holt Association of American members include descendants from 17 unrelated families: Nicholas, William, John, Oliver, Randall, and Robert Holt from England and Hans Michael Holt from Germany.
For the past 100+ years, the Holt Association of America has collected and preserved papers, records and photos. The Association has contributed to restoring buildings that have an impact on the Holt legacy, placed memorial markers, and created a national repository for our records. The Association was incorporated in 1971, has 501(c)(3) non profit status and donates to other 501(c)(3) organizations related to Holt interests.
